Discerning and Learning

By Katie Mathews, Campus Minister for Liturgy and Sacraments

Have you thought about joining the Catholic Church? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process is a journey of
personal discovery, faith sharing, and learning about the Catholic Church. This process offers inquirers an opportunity
to discern possible entrance into the Catholic Church.

Cole Hepp, a junior and RCIA leader, went through the process two years ago when he was a first year student. Reflecting on his experience, he shares, “Coming into the University of Dayton, I was excited to further discern my Christian faith at a Catholic University. The RCIA program helped me grow spiritually and intellectually within the richness of the Catholic faith. Journeying with the other members of my cohort as well as the team leaders blessed me with a great sense of joy and helped me further define my identity.”

If you are interested in learning more about RCIA or joining this process, come to an information session on Monday, September 17 from 7-8:30 PM in Liberty Hall Rm. 08. Also, if you are a baptized Catholic who would like to complete your initiation into the Catholic Church by receiving the sacrament of Confirmation, you can participate in the preparation process here at the University of Dayton. A new group of students will begin the flexible preparation process this fall beginning in early October and will be confirmed at the 10am Mass on Sunday, November 18th. This process is designed to accommodate the most hectic schedule!

Reach Out. Encounter Dayton. Act with Others. Lead Together.

Fall Break can be a time to recharge and explore, but it can also be a wonderful opportunity to engage with the idea of community. Here on campus, community is foundational to our college experience, but that idea of community sometimes does not extend beyond UD. Campus Ministry’s Center for Social Concern has an answer for that!
