Virtual Escape Room: A Fun Way to Learn about the Libraries

By Stephanie Shreffler, Jillian Ewalt and Heidi Gauder

Oh no! You’re locked inside Roesch Library, and there is no way out — unless you can solve all the puzzles that will allow you to escape.

University librarians have created a virtual escape room that will challenge your logic and puzzle-solving skills. Can you figure out the answers in order to escape? Seek guidance from a helpful owl, colorfully dressed nun dolls and the spirit of Father Leo Meyer, S.M., as you explore the University Libraries.

To crack the codes and solve logic puzzles, use your knowledge about the University of Dayton and the University Libraries. As you make your way through the University Libraries, you will learn more about library programs and services, then claim your bragging rights once you escape!

Stephanie Shreffler is an associate professor in the University Libraries and the collections librarian and archivist for the U.S. Catholic Special Collection. Jillian Ewalt is an associate professor and librarian for visual resources in the Marian Library. Heidi Gauder is a professor in the University Libraries and coordinator of research and instruction. The three collaborated on the design of the escape room activity, which was based on a similar activity by Holly Jackson of Mansfield University.
