New in the Libraries: Automatic renewal

By Kevin Cretsos

The University of Dayton Libraries announce a new service for students, faculty and staff: automatic renewal of eligible books and media.

“Our main mission is to ensure our students and faculty have the information resources they need, when they need them,” says Dean Kathleen Webb. “We need to use all tools available to us to facilitate that access. When we learned our library catalog is now able to automatically renew books, there was no question as to whether we should implement this feature. This new service helps our users, saves them time and takes away the worry of forgetting to renew a book.”

How it works

Question: How will you know if you have received an automatic renewal?

Answer: You will receive an email about your materials about a week before they are due. Any items eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed, and the email will show a new due date for each item. If the items are not eligible for renewal, the email will remind you that they’re due soon.

Items are ineligible for renewal if they have outstanding requests or if a user has reached the renewal limit. Some items such as course reserves and media equipment may also not be eligible for automatic renewal.

The faculty and staff in the Libraries hope you find this new system enhancement convenient!
