A Chance to Connect: Join us for Breaking Bread!

Each semester, Flyers from diverse backgrounds and beliefs come together to share culture and cuisine through the Breaking Bread program.

Sponsored by the Center for International Programs, Campus Ministry, the Office for Mission and Rector, and the Office of Community Wellness Services, Breaking Bread draws together UD students from different cultures, languages, and beliefs to share conversations over home-cooked meals.

The Breaking Bread program broadens global perspectives through the simple act of sharing a meal together. A small cohort of international and U.S. students meet for a series of meals over a three-week period, where they dine on both international cuisine and traditional American dishes. As Flyers break bread with one another, they’re encouraged to get to know each other through reflection and conversation. For the past seven years, this program has helped build friendships on campus through intercultural exchange, strengthening the diverse student community at UD.

Since its founding, Breaking Bread coordinators have worked closely with two Marianist Student Communities in the student neighborhood, who co-host dinners in the student neighborhood. This long-standing relationship provides these Flyers with the opportunity to live out the Marianist educational philosophies of community and inclusivity on campus by bringing together peers of different faiths, countries, languages and backgrounds.

Two Breaking Bread groups will take place during the 2019 spring semester. The first group will meet on Tuesday, March 19, 26, and April 2. The second group will meet on Wednesday, March 20, 27, and April 3. Space is limited and registration is required; Flyers interested in participating can sign up at this link before March 8: https://udayton.edu/international/connect/programs/breaking_bread.php
