Growing Our Collections for All to Enjoy

By Melanie Zebrowski, Library Specialist

The Marian Library recently acquired a beautiful Madonna and Child oil painting as a donation from Faith Community United Methodist Church in Xenia, Ohio. Created by an Italian artist (signed A. Dumini) in 1910, the piece is a reproduction of a famous Baroque work "The Virgin with the Infant Christ Standing" by Spanish artist Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1618-1682). Although the original hangs in the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy, our wonderful copy can now be found right here on campus in the Joseph E. Keller Hall atrium. Feel free to stop by and take a look.

Did you know the Marian Library has over 14,000 artworks in our collection? Because of generous donations like this, our holdings continue to grow. These artworks don’t just stay in one place, however. Through our art loan program, buildings and offices all over campus help us display a variety of Marian themed artwork from our collection for all to see. Next time you find yourself in an office on campus, don’t be surprised to discover a piece of artwork from the Marian Library somewhere nearby!
