  • Free Syriac Course
  • Father Alex Harb, pastor of Saint Ignatius of Antioch church, the local Maronite parish sent the information below.  Consider this program as a resource for yourself, if appropriate.  Also, feel free to share it with others you think might have an interest.  Though the material is not directly Marian, this course could help one to understand important Patristic, Scriptural, or liturgical texts related to Mary.
  • "Free college level Syriac course. July 16 - Aug 3, 2018 Monday - Friday from 6-9 pm.  Contact info@stiparish.org or 937-428-0372 for more information. Syriac, the most widely written dialect of Aramaic, is a language of great theological importance, both as the language of study to read ten Aramaic chapters of the Old Testament and as the theological and liturgical language of the Maronite, Syriac, Malankara, and Malabara Churches as well as Eddesan and Antiochian Christianity.  Syriac unlocks some of the most profound poetry of the Christian tradition."

Brother John Samaha, S.M., sent us the text below with the following comments.

Battle Hymn for the Unborn by Lawrence Behr

My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord

He is bringing peace and justice to the nations of the world

Let the unborn leap for joy as St. John did at Mary's word!

Our Lord is marching on!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!  Glory, glory, hallelujah!

Glory, glory, hallelujah!  Our Lord is marching on.

He is the Sun of Justice, Son Of God and Son of Man.

He is Wonderful and Couns'lor, Prince of Peace, the great I AM.

O how blest are those invited to the Supper of the Lamb!

His victory marches on!

                Glory, glory, etc

He will separate the sheep from goats for all eternity

He will vindicate His righteous words for all on earth to see;

"What you did to the least of My brethren, that you did to Me."

His justice marches on.

                Glory, glory, etc.

And you who've held His banner high through the long and fearsome night

He will welcome you with outstretched arms and seat you on His right:

"You were faithful in a small thing, you will rule now by My might!"

His love is marching on!

                Glory, glory, etc.

He became a helpless baby to be born in Bethlehem

All babies have the right to live and give glory unto Him

We will fight to protect the unborn, and never for'get them!

Our God is marching on!

                Glory, glory, hallelujah!, etc.

'Tenderness of Mothers Should Never Be Underestimated,' Pope Underscores on the First Feast of Mary Mother of the Church (Zenit) May 21, 2018

Tenderness is among the most special virtues which mothers offer to the world.

According to Vatican News, ... Pope Francis stressed this during his daily morning Mass at Casa Santa Marta as he reflected on the Church as a woman, possessing the gentle but strong attitudes of mother and bride.

"The Church is feminine.  She is a mother," he highlighted.  When this identity is lost, Francis warned, it becomes "a charitable organization or a football team."  When "it is a male Church," he said, it becomes "a Church of old bachelors, incapable of love, incapable of fruitfulness."

In the Gospels, the Jesuit Pope reminded us that, Mary is always referred to as "Mother of Jesus," not as "the Lady" or "the widow of Joseph."  Rather, her "motherliness" covers all the Sacred Scriptures, beginning with the Annunciation. This specificity that the Fathers of the Church immediately understood, is a dowry that reaches and encircles the Church, the Pope said....
