Brother John Samaha, S.M., sent us the text below with the following comments: "Some thoughts about Mary in our lives ..."

Mary's Mysteries Concern Us by Brother John Samaha, S.M.

God became Man for us. Baptism brings us faith and the power of the Holy Spirit, the saving action and new creation of Jesus. Like Mary, we can say: "He has done great things for me." We pledge to serve God and others as Jesus did. In Baptism we die with Christ so that we may live with His resurrected life.

Death is part of our life. But death in the life of the Spirit is a transition. The life of each person in the Church is already a life in the Spirit of Christ. We know the power of Jesus' resurrection in our hopes, in faith, in the marvelous works of Christ we see around us, in the relationships we develop with others in the Spirit--familial, personal, neighborhood, national, and international. As members of the Mystical Body of Christ we change the world this way.

At death our eternal life continues and is fulfilled in our union with Christ. The Holy Spirit gives us complete life and happiness, the life of God, as the Holy Spirit gave it to Mary at her death. We too are raised to the heights, the happiness, which God began to give us at Baptism. What God did for Mary He does for us.

The Feast of St. Joseph--Also Father’s Day--Celebrated in Rome (Zenit) March 21, 2018

The Feast of St. Joseph was celebrated throughout Italy and the entire world on March 19. The weather in Rome started with hail at 8:00 in the morning, followed by strong rain for several hours. Yet at 3:30 in the afternoon when clergy, religious, parishioners, pilgrims, and visitors gathered in front of the Basilica Parrochiale of San Giuseppe Trionfale in Rome the sun started to break through. As the statue was carried outside to be the focal point of the procession, the sun shined so very bright that sunglasses were needed

The procession was led by the Band of the Gendarmeria of the Vatican and presided over by His Excellency, Monsignor Paolo Ricciardi, Bishop for the Pastoral Care of the Diocese of Rome.

This beautiful procession started at the Basilica San Giuseppe Trionfale and continued through the neighborhoods of Prati and Trionfale with deep devotion, prayers and singing by family members of all ages and anziani (respected, revered older senior citizens), young people, babies in strollers, children on the shoulder of their fathers, little children making the sign of the cross and praying along with their parents and nonni (grandparents)....

One Body, Many Parts (Marian Library blog) March 19, 2018

There are many people and components to the Marian Library that allow its mission of making the Virgin Mary better known, loved, and served to be possible. One of these is the International Marian Research Institute (IMRI), which shares space with the Marian Library on the seventh floor.

A year ago this month, the University of Dayton (U.D.) and the Marianist community lost Rev. Francois Rossier, S.M., Executive Director of IMRI. During his time as director, Father Rossier was dedicated to spreading love and knowledge of Mary both worldwide and within the University. Some of his contributions included helping the Marian Library launch its All About Mary page and creating a Marian concentration for the master's degree in theological studies along with a Marian studies certificate through collaboration with UD's Religious Studies program.

Father Rossier’s work continued the mission of IMRI, which grew out of the Marian Library's summer institutes. The summer institutes (first held in 1953) were annual conferences featuring well-known Mariologists and other speakers. In 1974, after Pope Paul VI wrote his apostolic letter Marialis cultus proposing a renewed approach to Marian devotion, Father Theodore Koehler, S.M., a French Marianist and director of the Marian Library at the time, developed the annual summer institutes at the Marian Library into a six-week program. He called the program the Marian Library Institute, and later it became known as the International Marian Research Institute....
