Love and Grace

As a center piece of the exhibition, Symbols of Grace, at the Marian Library Gallery, Dr. Yufeng Wang’s ceramic sculpture, "Love and Grace," is a Chinese rendering of the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus. Love and grace are revealed in the tranquil expressions of the newborn, elegant traditional dress, protective candle wrap, underglaze painting of roses, and the jade pendant of the Chinese character for Love.

Wang is a Chinese brush painter and ceramic artist. As a teenager, her love of traditional Chinese art was inspired by renowned artists Sun Qifeng and Fan Zeng in Tianjin. For many years, she studied Chinese painting with the noted artist Afu Hong from Fujian, China. Her artwork reflects a sense of peace and harmony in nature and humanity. Dr. Wang’s ceramic vase “Four Seasons” with underglaze painting received first place in the Dayton Painters and Sculptors show in 2015. Her ceramic artwork “Li River” was awarded the Burnell Roberts Purchase Award in 2015 and is in the permanent collection of Sinclair College.
