Produced in 1991 by Tyco Industries, Catechic offers players 1,000 questions on Catholicism and other religions. Topics vary greatly, ranging from the Bible, to movies, to religious history, to the saints. Although not all questions are about Catholicism, the majority cover some type of Catholic topic, offering a fun and unique way for long-time Catholics to brush up on their knowledge, or for new Catholics to practice what they’ve learned. Catechists are always searching for new, exciting ways to teach the Catholic faith to their students – and the Catechic board game is a perfect example. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we celebrate the efforts of catechists on the Jubilee of Catechists, celebrated September 23-25. Show support for your catechism and religion teachers during their Jubilee Days, and come explore the catechetical materials in the United States Catholic Special Collection! It’s open Monday through Friday, from 11 am to 4 pm, and can be found on the third floor of Roesch Library.

Whether you’re interested in more unusual catechetical methods, like board games, or more traditional methods like books, videos, and CDs, the U.S. Catholic Special Collection (USCSC) has something to meet your needs. Our materials trace the development of catechesis in the United States from the nineteenth century to the present. Devoted to the topic of American Catholicism, the USCSC holds rare and unique materials on American catechesis, and beyond.
