Signature Experiential Learning Program for the Non-Business Major

Why Engage with Business

• Most university graduates regardless of major go on to employment in some organization, whether business, government, education, or others. And, ALL organizations share business characteristics including revenue, budgets, customers, competitors, project management, branding, marketing, information systems, management structure, and operations, and all exist in and interact with broader environments such as the economic, legal, and regulatory realms.
• Entry-level placement and career advancement opportunities are increasingly competitive.  Engaging with Business (EWB) equips the non-business major with tools to gain a leg up on the competition for jobs in any area of expertise.

The Program

• EWB, Signature Experiential Learning Program for the non-business major, is an intensive 10-day experience to better prepare for transition from college to professional life after college. EWB provides the matriculating non-business student with awareness of modern business concepts, skills and practices. EWB imbues the future professional with greater confidence and credibility on entering the job market.  For assured representation to a potential employer, for example in a resume, EWB completion is documented on the student’s transcript.
• EWB activities include sessions with a wide variety of expert academic and practitioner speakers, on- and off-site, covering a broad range of topical knowledge essential to navigating business environments. Please see the planned schedule.

When is EWB

The upcoming EWB session is scheduled from January 3 through January 12, 2019.

Student Information Sessions

Student information sessions will be held as follows:

• Sunday, October 28, 3:00-4:00 p.m., Miriam Hall 207
• Sunday, November 4, 3:00-4:00 p.m., Miriam Hall 207

How to Apply for EWB

The eligible applicant must be a junior or senior non-business major in good standing with at least 60 or more semester hours completed by the end of the Fall 2018 semester.  Alumni and non-business students in good standing from other universities are also eligible to apply. The deadline to submit an application is November 9, 2018.

EWB Cost

EWB is an experiential, practical wisdom program, not an academic course and thus does not carry academic credit or impact your GPA. Nevertheless, for validation to prospective employers, EWB completion by current UD students will be recorded as course BIZ 399 on the UD student transcript. EWB is an experiential learning program with a program cost of $3,000.  Students living in University housing will be permitted to enter their housing on January 2, 2019. If your University housing is closed or otherwise unavailable during the EWB program, you will be provided with alternative on-campus housing during the EWB program or until your regular housing becomes available. All program printed materials, refreshments, most lunches, field trip transportation, etc. are included. Participants should bring their laptop to all program meetings.

EWB Dress Code

Business casual wear is required for all program activities.
