Humor Writer of the Month: Jillian Van Hefty

Jillian Van Hefty was a winner of Nickie’s Prize for Humor Writing and a finalist in the A Hotel Room of One's Own: The Erma Bombeck | Anna Lefler Humorist-in-Residence Program in 2020. Her essay She Spins Like Saturn took honorable mention in the global human interest category of the 2018 Erma Bombeck Writing Competition.

Her work has appeared in Points in Case; Love What Matters; Haute Dish Literary Journal; Prometheus Dreaming; Eat, Darling, Eat; and the Minnesota Women’s Press.

She is currently working on a memoir about her Alzheimer's mama titled It Was Shiny When the Snow Collapsed and a humor book inspired by her idol, Erma Bombeck.

Her passions include true crime podcasts, improv comedy, making soup, proper etiquette and all things British (with the one exception of Boris Johnson’s haircut).

She lives in small-town Minnesota with her husband, two sons, rescue Corgi and emotional support Keurig.
