Even in the face of a pandemic and slow national economic recovery, writers showed their love and generosity during a yearend crowdfunding campaign to support the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop endowment.

As the campaign wound down at midnight on #GivingTuesday, the workshop tallied $15,030 in gifts, spurred by a generous anonymous donor doubling every contribution up to $10,000.

By the numbers:

15,030 dollars

42 donors

23 “UNSelfies”

17 states

1 Erma Nation

“We’re humbled by the belief of writers in the power of this workshop to elevate writing that brings us together through humor and our common humanity,” said Teri Rizvi, founder and director of the workshop. “Is there a more creative and generous writing community than this one?”

The next Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop will take place March 24-26, 2022, on the University of Dayton’s campus. Registration is expected to open in December.
