Who's Publishing What: You're Leaving When?
“Erma Bombeck meets Dorothy Parker in this topical and often laugh-out-loud funny take on our modern malaise.”
That’s how Kirkus Reviews describes Annabelle Gurwitch’s newest book, You’re Leaving When? Adventures in Downward Mobility. Scheduled for release on March 2, 2021, it’s available now for pre-order.
“Gurwitch possesses an appealingly cockeyed sense of humor, and she offers incisive takes on consumer culture and our contemporary confusions and lighthearted (though pointed) opinions on the travails that beset many middle-age women,” according to Kirkus Reviews. “In a consistently engaging narrative rich with personal anecdotes, the author pokes fun at her misadventures in love, work and home maintenance, but she also addresses other pressing matters — economic vulnerability in the gig economy, social inequities, raising nonbinary children, friendship, homelessness, wellness fads, the challenges of a life in the arts and the mysteries of Zoom — with a similarly breezy touch that is surprisingly effective.”
A 2020 keynoter at the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop, Annabelle is a New York Times’ best-selling author of four books, actress, essayist and storyteller. She was a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor Writing in 2015.
The original co-host for Dinner and a Movie on TBS, she has appeared in numerous television and film projects.
She's a frequent speaker at book fests, writers' conferences and with The Moth. Annabelle teaches on the faculty of The School of The New York Times. She's currently working on a new solo show, If You Lived With Me, You'd Be Home By Now, based on her 2019 Los Angeles Times essay.
