Finding your tribe
It's so important to find your tribe. I found mine this past April when I attended the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop for the first time. My tribe was in Dayton, Ohio. Who knew?
From the second I entered the hotel lobby, I felt I belonged amongst (is "amongst" still a thing?) these hundreds of funny writers from around the globe. I wasn't the odd one because we were all beautifully odd. We were united in our love of Erma and all things humorous. I was there to teach. But boy did I learn some stuff!
If I had a magic wand, I'd wave it so that every humor writer in the world could experience what I did. Solid workshops, awesome keynotes, great networking and THE FOOD! Lawd ham mercy! My only regret is that the conference only takes place every two years.
Right now there's campaign afoot to raise "25K in 25 days" to help defray the cost of the workshop so more writers might have an opportunity to attend. If you are a funny writer, want to be a funny writer, know a funny writer, love reading stuff written by funny writers, I'm asking you to consider making a contribution.
