The Widows

Inspired by the true story of Ohio's first female sheriff, The Widows by Jess Montgomery (best known to EBWW attendees as faculty member Sharon Short) is a powerful debut about two women's search for justice as they take on the corruption at the heart of their community.

To be released on Jan. 8, 2019, the mystery novel, the first in the Kinship historical mystery series, is already receiving praise from the literary world.

"The Widows kept me on the edge of my seat. Jess Montgomery is a masterful storyteller. This is a novel about courage and the good hearts of women, and it builds, almost unbearably, to its stunning end," writes Lee Martin, Pulitzer Prize finalist and author of The Bright Forever.

From Hallie Ephron, New York Times bestselling author of You'll Never Know, Dear: "Set when coal was king and the Pinkertons its strikebreakers, The Widows is a gripping, beautifully written novel about two women avenging the murder of the man they both loved."

Those pre-ordering the book should email Jess Montgomery at jessmontgomeryauthor@gmail.com for a small thank-you gift - and the opportunity to be entered in a drawing for "The Kinship Artwork," inspired by The Widows and created by artist Connie Post. Between now and Nov. 17, readers also can enter a Goodreads Giveaway contest for the chance to win a copy.
