Empowering women one laugh at a time
At a time when simply using the words "me too" and "times up" triggers anger, debate and, yes, trolls, non-profit organization The Syndrome Mag has decided this is exactly the right time to take action. One part social media movement, one part online magazine, and every bit humorous feminism, The Syndrome Mag's mission is to empower women one laugh at a time.
The Syndrome Mag got its start as a Facebook page in Italy. The page, which has reached up to seven million people, features jokes written by women to shine a light on difficult and oft-taboo social issues. Following the movement's success in Italy, the Directress Silvia Bajardi launched its English counterpart with social media pages and an online magazine based out of Seattle, Washington.
Syndrome is an international community of women volunteers. Contributors come from a variety of backgrounds, work expertise, religions, ages, sexual orientations and geographic locations. The magazine believes that all women have something to say and deserve an outlet to express themselves.
The magazine accepts humorous articles (1,300 words max) and jokes written by women on topics related to gender equality and women's experience. These can range from work, parenting, travel and immigration, aging, sex and relationships, body perception, to mention just a few. Personal stories are welcome.
For more information please check out the magazine's website.
