Civil engineering major discovers engineering passion through co-op experience

By Kiara DiLoreto '23, civil engineering student

Over the course of my 5 co-op terms with Woolpert, I gained experience in structural engineering, sustainable design, bridges, roadways, traffic and even a bit of technical writing.

Throughout my time as an intern, I was given the opportunity to work in different departments while pursuing my passions of sustainability and supporting young women who want to become engineers.

I furthered my desire to learn about sustainability by earning my Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate and Envision Sustainability Professional credentials through Woolpert's educational and learning support.

Woolpert also funded my attendance to multiple professional events and conferences, such as the Structural Engineering Association of Ohio's (SEAoO) Annual Conference, the annual Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference (OTEC), and numerous meetings for the Cincinnati chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS).

I also participated in Woolpert-sponsored educational camps and events for local high school students, which focused on empowering and inspiring young women to enter the industry.

Woolpert has been incredibly generous in helping me navigate where I want to go within civil engineering. It brings me great excitement to know that I will be coming back to Woolpert after graduation as a full-time employee in the Transportation Engineering Department.

Congratulations Kiara DiLoreto on your full-time offer from Woolpert!
