ECHO Event - Get Out and Play

Michelle Sherman, ECHO Family Advocate, works closely with Dayton Children's Hospital (DCH) to provide outreach and education to students and families at Catholic schools. This January ECHO sponsored three events which took place at Mother Brunner Catholic School, St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School, and Holy Angels Catholic School in Sydney, Ohio. Kelli Sharp, Health Outreach Specialist Coordinator from DCH, shared information with our kindergarten through third graders about the importance of play. Martin Jimenez, ECHO's PULSE volunteer, provided assistance to Kelli with her presentations. The "Get Out and Play" campaign is sponsored by Kohls. Each child who attended our ECHO events received a back pack with ideas on fun games to do outside to expand their imagination thanks to this great campaign.

Throughout the school year ECHO provides a variety of social, emotional, and educational enrichment to students and families.  Here is a list of other upcoming ECHO events:

Breakfast & Books

Dayton Metro Library Specialist Kathleen Moore will work in a small group with the classroom parents and students on dialogic reading to improve their child's comprehension. Parents will receive breakfast and take home books and door prizes for attending. 

  • Wednesday March 22, 2017 (Preschool): 8 to 9 a.m., St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School, sponsored by Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity Program, United Against Violence, and Dayton Metro Library Literacy Specialist.
  • Friday March 24, 2017 (Kindergarten):  8 to 9 a.m., St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School, sponsored by Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity Program, United Against Violence, and Dayton Metro Library Literacy Specialist.

Family Game Night

Parents and students learn and play interactive math and literacy games. For grades K-8. The families receive a new game to take home. Cookies and punch are served and several door prizes will be given out.

  • Thursday March 16, 2017: 6:30 to 8 p.m. (dinner served), Mother Brunner Catholic School (Catapult student families only), sponsored by Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity Program and Catapult.
  • Thursday March 30, 2017: 6 to 8 p.m.(dinner at 6 p.m.), St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School, sponsored by Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity Program, Catapult, and University of Dayton School of Ed interns.
