Lalanne Series - Lauren Lacey

By Victoria Schoen

Lauren Lacey is our next Lalanne teacher! Lauren is 22 years old and she is from Milford, Ohio. She is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and she is entering her first year as a Lalanne teacher. Lauren is a part of the Cleveland community where she will be teaching 2nd grade at Metro Catholic School this coming school year. Let’s see what Lauren has to say in response to our questions:

What is your favorite subject to teach? Language Arts

What is your favorite subject to learn? Science

What is the one most important thing that you want your students to learn from you or take away from your teaching? I want more than anything for my students to understand that everyone is different, whether that is in the way they learn, talk, look, act or where they come from.  Differences are what make us all unique and if we were all the same, life would be so boring.  I do my best to reach out to all types of students to make my instruction well rounded and differentiated for each one of them.

Who is your role model? Describe them: One of the best professors I had at Xavier University is my role model.  He overcame so many struggles in his schooling to become a teacher and go on to get his doctorate.  He inspired me every class to be the absolute best teacher I can be and I have so much to thank him for forming me into the teacher and person I am today.

How were you inspired to become a teacher? I come from a family of teachers, my mom, my aunt, my grandma and my cousin.  It has always been in the back of my mind that I would be a teacher, but I think going through Catholic schooling and having so many terrific teachers just put a positive image in my mind of being a teacher.

Why did you decide to become a teacher? I started off my college career as an undecided major.  I was very focused on the business profession and maybe doing something in marketing so I signed myself up for a marketing presentation.  After sitting there for about 5 minutes I realized this was not my calling and went straight to the Dean’s office to apply for my education classes and have not regretted it ever since.

Why do you want to teach in Catholic schools? I have been surrounded by the Catholic faith my whole life and have attended Catholic schooling since Kindergarten up to today.  It has truly shaped me into the person that I am, and the teacher I am so I cannot imagine teaching in any other setting.

What are three fun facts about you? I love the Blue Blob (Xavier’s mascot).  I love to write people letters. I love the weather and checking the weather.

If you could teach anywhere in the world where would you teach? I would love to teach back at my grade school that I attended for 9 years.

Here are comments from other Lalanne teachers and staff about Lauren:

“Lauren is very sweet and funny!”

“Lauren loves popsicles. There were very few moments this summer that I would see Lauren without one in her hand. The same goes for when she is at home. Lauren also loves to explore our new home of Cleveland. She is always willing to hop in the car and check out something new.”

“Lauren’s competitive spirit is kind of awesome to experience. Maybe not for her, but definitely for others.”

“Lauren is an active and prayerful young woman with a dedication to young people.”

“Before I met Lauren Lacey I thought I knew what cute was. I was young and naïve. When I heard Lauren laugh for the first time that is when everything changed. Nothing can dim the light that shines from within Lauren. Her laughter is contagious and will brighten any child’s day. Her enthusiasm for learning is infectious. By the end of this year her students will be glowing with a fever that burns for education and Christ.”
