Green Energy Ohio gives Green Achievement Award in Academia to UD

The University of Dayton will receive Green Energy Ohio's Green Achievement Award in Academia at an awards ceremony Friday, April 17, at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. Green Energy Ohio honors individuals, businesses, universities, nonprofits, and government and community entities for promoting sustainable energy policies, technologies and practices and educating Ohioans on renewable resources and energy conservation and efficiency.

Solar prairie signage team hopes designs soon turn into reality

The University of Dayton partners responsible for the solar array and pollinator prairie at Daniel J. Curran Place feel another element is needed to tie the project together: signage.

Thanks to students in professor John Clarke’s design-science synthesis course, a system of displays was developed and could just be a final push away from installation. The signs will tell the solar prairie’s tale of innovation, partnership and experiential learning.

U.S. News lists UD in slideshow of "10 environmentally friendly" campuses

U.S. News & World Report named the University of Dayton as one of "10 Environmentally Friendly College Campuses" as part of their Best Colleges website section. "For college hopefuls who are passionate about the environment, an undergraduate institution's policies on sustainability may be a major factor they consider during their school search," the slideshow story reads.

Commercial aviation alternative fuels initiative taps School of Engineering lab as first in nation for screening

The Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative has greenlighted the University of Dayton Heyne Energy and Appropriate Technology Lab and the University of Dayton Research Institute to be the first in the nation to prescreen alternative aviation fuels for viability to enter the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) testing program.

Melink VP to speak to students about UD's solar arrays

University of Dayton students can learn about solar panels on campus from the vice president and general manager of the company that installed them. Seth Parker from Melink Solar & Geothermal will give a presentation on the arrays installed on the roof of Fitz Hall, in front of Curran Place and at Adele Center, according to Eric Lang, a senior research scientist at the University of Dayton Research Institute.

Nothing quite catches your attention like the sight of a giant Hercules C-130 aircraft in the parking lot at Curran Place, home of the University of Dayton Research Institute. It’s a test lab for real-world, hands-on aerospace research, but it’s also symbolic of UDRI, which continues to spread its wings and soar higher and higher.
