University of Dayton and Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium

2023 Panelist
Kyle Henneke

Kyle Henneke is a 5th-year MD/MPH dual-degree student at Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine. He completed undergraduate studies at WSU earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2014, after which he began a nursing career. After spending time as a bedside ER nurse and getting dual-certified in both emergency and trauma nursing, Kyle completed a post-baccalaureate certificate in pre-medical studies at WSU and applied to medical school. He started at BSOM in 2018 and applied for their Physician Leadership Development Program.  Kyle completed a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree between his 2nd and 3rd years of medical school.

Through furthering his education, Kyle's personal and professional interests have spanned a wide variety of topics and specialties. Though he has nearly a decade of bedside nursing experience primarily in emergency medicine, he decided to apply for opportunities in both categorical psychiatry and combined internal medicine/psychiatry residency programs across the country. Kyle interviewed at programs such as Duke University, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, University of Cincinnati, and Ohio State University – to name a few – so if there are questions concerning how to build a relatively competitive application starting at the very beginning of your pre-medicine journey, he is happy to help. Kyle is interested in a career focusing on addiction medicine and trauma-informed care, as well as academia, with a long-term goal of serving as a residency program director. Kyle currently lives in Dayton and his hobbies include dancing, bar trivia, gardening, and supporting LGBTQIA+ advocacy.
