Symposium Schedule

The symposium schedule includes the morning session followed by a luncheon/reception for healthcare providers, professionals, and students. The target audience for the symposium includes healthcare providers and administrators, medical and other health professional students and residents.

The luncheon closes out the events for the healthcare professionals and community members.

The afternoon student symposium will be held from 1:30 to 3:20 pm and feature discussion panels addressing topics of interest to undergraduate students interested in healthcare careers.

Morning Session

8 to 8:45 a.m.: Registration, Continental Breakfast and Poster Session

9 a.m.: Opening Remarks, Joseph Scherger, MD, MPH

9:10 a.m.: Dr. Nicole Labor – The Neuroscience of Addiction

10 a.m.: Dr. Michael Dohn & Haley Riegel – From Philosophy to Buckets: A Perspective on Addiction

10:30 a.m.: Break – Poster Session

10:50 a.m.: Dr. Joseph Scherger – Primary Care: On the Front Lines of the Opioid Epidemic

11:10 a.m.: How Are Our Healthcare Systems Responding to the Opioid Crisis: A Providers’ Panel
Panelists: Dr. Nancy Pook, Kettering Health Network; Dr. Jennifer Hauler, Premier Health Network; Dr. Randall Jame, VA Medical Center; and Dr. Tahira Adelekan , Dayton Children's Medical Center

12 p.m.: Local Examples of Innovative Practices
