University of Dayton and Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium

Awards

Two new awards were inaugurated during the 2022 UD & Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium to recognize a local healthcare professional and a pre-health professional student who have positively impacted our community through their work.

The awards are named in honor of two individuals who were instrumental in developing the healthcare symposium and who themselves have greatly benefitted the Dayton community through their respective professions.

Michael W. Craig M.D. Healthcare Impact Award

This award is named in honor of a physician who served patients in Dayton during his long career as a pulmonologist.  Dr. Craig is an alumnus of the University of Dayton and has generously supported the University in a number of ways.

The Michael W. Craig M.D. Healthcare Impact Award will be given annually at the University of Dayton & Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium to a local healthcare professional with exemplary service to the community.

Dr. Michael Craig is the first recipient of this award.

Kathleen C. Scheltens Ph.D. Student Healthcare Impact Award

This award is named in honor of an educator who mentored and advised pre-health professional students at the University of Dayton for more than 15 years.  As Director of Premedical Programs at UD, Dr. Scheltens worked tirelessly in service of students.

The Kathleen C. Scheltens Ph.D. Student Healthcare Impact Award will be given annually at the University of Dayton & Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium to a student with exemplary service and leadership related to healthcare.

Sarah Lamb, a junior at the University of Dayton, is the first recipient of this award.  Sarah is a dual degree student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Pre-medicine and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.  While Sarah is involved in a number of ways on and off campus, she is being honored with this award mainly due to her dedication to the Hospital Elder Life Program at Miami Valley Hospital.  Sarah works closely with both the Premedical Programs Office at UD and Ben Fornshell who has led HELP at Miami Valley Hospital since last summer.
