ArtsLIVE Performance Series

Russian Renaissance

World Traditions

7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, Sears Recital Hall

“…an exceptional…blend of excellence and vision.”
- Arts at Michigan

Russian Renaissance—a quartet that captured the Grand Prize at the prestigious M-Prize Competition—consistently astounds audiences. The quartet is redefining the possibilities of their traditional Russian folk instruments (balalaika, domra/domra alto, button accordion, and balalaika contra basso)—tackling everything from tango and folk to Classical and jazz. Now touring internationally, Russian Renaissance has been busy collecting honors: most recently, they were honored as Musical America’s New Artist of the Month (March 2018), and were awarded a Gold Medal for Chamber Music at the first Vienna International Music Competition (2019). This young ensemble—with a slogan of “World Music with a Russian Soul”—is enchanting audiences globally.

World Traditions: For the culturally curious, this is programming that will delight. Selections feature chamber ensembles from across the globe, inspired by the University’s commitment to preparing our students as citizens of the world.
