Sustainability Projects Fund

The HSI Sustainability Projects Fund was established in 2024 to support sustainability projects that align with the Campus Operations Sustainability Goals or one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Waste Reduction
  • Food Systems
  • Sustainable/Ethical Purchasing
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Buildings
  • Grounds/Landscaping
  • Biodiversity/Conservation
  • Transportation
  • Outreach/Education

The goal of this fund is to provide opportunities for students, faculty, staff, or departments to pursue projects or initiatives that enhance the sustainability and environmental wellbeing of our campus community. University of Dayton faculty, staff, and students can submit project proposals, which are reviewed and approved by a committee. Funds must be used within one year.

To apply for funding, submit a completed application and budget form, attached below. Applications must include all project contact information, scope of the project, and how it applies to sustainability topic areas on campus.

Project Criteria:

  • Projects must have a measurable impact to on-campus sustainability efforts.
  • Funds must be utilized for on-campus projects or activities. 
  • Projects should not require continuous funding from the Sustainability Projects Fund.
  • Funds cannot be used to pay directly for staff, faculty, or student positions.

The Sustainability Projects Fund Committee convenes two times each academic semester to review and vote on project proposals, excluding summer. Meeting dates will be posted at the start of each semester.

Committee members

The Sustainability Projects Fund Committee is made up of 10 total members, seven of which are voting members. The student positions are appointed for one year. The 2024-25 positions and committee members are as follows:

  • Four voting students
  • Two non-voting students
  • Three voting faculty/staff members
  • One ex-officio member (non-voting)
  • One Chairperson (non-voting)
