The University of Dayton celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the creation of the Human Rights program on campus and the seventieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and provided an opportunity to look forward toward a new era of human rights at UD. The program included two panels featuring alumni, distinguished speakers, and a reception.

Every person deserves dignity. Every person deserves a voice. When our students advocate for the vulnerable, they become a voice for the voiceless in a world that is not always just. Their stories give me faith in the future. And their mindset is one we want to cultivate in all graduates, no matter their degree.

Human Rights Studies

The University of Dayton established the nation’s first undergraduate human rights studies program in 1998. More than one hundred students have graduated from the program and pursued careers as human rights advocates and academics or humanitarian professionals in legal, governmental and nonprofit sectors.
