Health Activation Think Tank
The Health Activation Think Tank's (HATT) goal is to increase Black infant and maternal vitality in Montgomery County through evidence-based solutions that center the experiences and knowledge of Black women as starting points for health and healing.
With Montgomery County having the highest rates in Ohio and among the highest rates in the country, The Health Activation Think Tank is currently focused on infant and maternal mortality. HATT is composed of residents from the most impacted zip codes, doulas, lactation specialists, as well as representatives from 16 nonprofit, government, and healthcare partners. HAT’s priorities connected to impacting infant and maternal mortality in Dayton and Montgomery County: Analyzing research and utilizing evidence-based solutions that have been effective in other regions and shaping them for impact in Dayton. Understanding, analyzing, and utilizing data, including at the neighborhood level. Changing the narrative and mental models around infant and maternal mortality. Increasing the impact of doulas. HATT is actively moving forward each of these priorities and has outcomes from this work, such as our new doula program, which funds women from impacted zip codes to be trained, registered, and certified as doulas, as well as provides them with small business training.
