Theatre, Dance and Performance Technology Program

Performing Arts Scholarship

We invite you to apply for a performing arts scholarship worth up to $40,000 over four years (up to $10,000 annually)Offered by the Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Programthese scholarships are available for full-time students who are declared and active Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology majors at the University of Dayton.  

To apply for this scholarship, submit your resume and video application by Nov. 1. You can find the link to your personalized submission form in the email inviting you to apply for the scholarship. 

Award Notifications

Scholarship recipients will be notified by the Director of the Theatre, Dance and Performance Technology Program.

Instructions and Guidelines

  • Your resume should be saved as Lastname.Resume (Example: Miranda.Resume) and must include the following information:
  • Your name, home address, email address and phone number.
  • High school(s) attended, city, state, and your current GPA.
  • Any theatre or dance training, including any courses and/or workshops.
  • Any performance experience, only including performances since starting high school.
  • Any production experience, including backstage, directing, stage management, design, or other work on shows since starting high school.
  • Please provide brief answers (no more than 4 sentences each) to the following questions:
    - What do you feel you would bring to UD's Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program?
    - What do you feel UD's Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program has to offer you?
  • At the end of your resume, provide a link to your YouTube or Vimeo application video.

You may apply for only one of the scholarships categories below. To apply, create a video (YouTube or Vimeo) that satisfies the following directions. Your video must be no more than 2 minutes in length.

Acting  

 

Choose only one video option:  

1. Perform one (or more) monologue(s). 

2. Perform an original piece in response to the prompt "My Life Before and After ______" that includes music and/or singing, narrative, and movement/physicality.  

Applied Theatre  

Explain why you are passionate about theatre for social justice and how you want to change the world as a theatre artist. 

Dance  

Perform one (or more) dance piece(s). 

Performance Technology  

Present a design concept, portfolio, technical project, or prompt book. In addition, submit a digital portfolio pdf document or a hyperlink to a professional web-based portfolio at the bottom of your resume 

Theatre Studies  

Discuss your academic interests in pursuing a Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology degree. In addition, submit as a pdf attachment an academic paper on any theatre subject, minimum three pages, with your resume. 

 


  • You will graduate from high school in the spring or summer of the current school year.
  • You are admitted to the University of Dayton.
  • You submit a resume that includes a link (YouTube or Vimeo) to a video clip that adheres to the instructions before the deadline.

  1. Maintain a 3.0 grade point average in theatre, dance, and performance technology courses;
  2. Participate every semester for eight consecutive semesters in at least one main stage Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program production. This participation can be in such areas as acting, dance, stage managing, design, run crew, scenery or costume preparation, or any other area approved by the Program Director. Failure to participate in the production season can result in cancellation of the student's scholarship.*
  3. Conduct oneself professionally and respectfully at all times, both on-campus and off-campus, when representing UD and the Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program.**
  4. Active membership in UD Dance Ensemble required for dance scholarships. Students receiving performance technology scholarships are required to have student employment through the TDP program.
  5. Scholarships are renewed contingent upon successful annual review.

* Exceptions are granted by the Program Director for Study Abroad and other special circumstances. Scholarship students wanting to participate in dance or theatre productions outside of the TDP Program must receive written permission from the TDP Program Director. Failure to obtain permission in advance of outside commitment can result in the cancellation of the student's scholarship.

** Unprofessional conduct or violation of the UD Student Code of Conduct is grounds for immediate termination of the scholarship.

Please note: Students who experience difficulty with the above criteria will be placed on probation and may lose their Performing Arts Scholarship.
