Programs and Services
The Premedical Programs Office (PPO) provides an array of programs and services to support students of all majors across campus who are interested in applying to medical or professional schools after graduation.
Services provide support throughout the undergraduate career as students work towards becoming successful candidates for health professional school. These services include:
- being a clearing house for information related to health professional schools and professional development opportunities
- collecting and compiling statistics on UD students’ acceptances to health professional schools, resources
- support for applying to health professional schools, application workshops for students applying to schools that use the composite letter process
- assisting students with the composite letter process and submitting a composite on behalf of the student as a strong letter of recommendation is an integral piece of the student’s primary application
- providing and coordinating mock interviews with Career Services for students that have interview invitations to medical, dental, and physician assistant (PA) school
- offering scholarships and grants to financially assist students.
- coordinating MCAT and DAT review courses on campus.
Programs provide many opportunities throughout the undergraduate years to learn about various health professions, gain clinical experience, explore the complexities of healthcare, and interact with both admissions representatives and practicing health care providers. Programming includes:
- a Fall Friday seminar series with guest speakers from various regional medical, dental and professional schools
- the opportunity for lunch with the guest speakers from health professional schools
- the opportunity for 1 on 1 meetings between students and alumni currently in the application process and guest speakers from various health professional schools
- an annual healthcare symposium that provides opportunities for students to learn more about relevant aspects of healthcare, attend professional development discussion panels, and network with area healthcare professionals
- opportunities for clinical experiences with community partners such as Miami Valley Hospital and the Good Neighbor House through some of the PPO sponsored mini-courses
- the opportunity to train as a medical scribe through the PPO sponsored mini-course, UDI 277
- the opportunity to explore the socioeconomic factors that contribute to health and to work as a patient advocate in Dayton Children's Hospital Family Resource Center through the PPO sponsored mini-course, MED 351
