2020 Dayton2DC Cohort

Sophomore. Political Science major. Business Administration minor.

Michael is from Chicago, Illinois and is majoring in political science with a minor in business administration. He is part of Flyer Enterprises and plans on studying abroad in Madrid during the fall of 2020. He is on track to graduate in the spring of 2022. In being a part of this experience his goal is to gain a clearer understanding of what he might want to do with his career. He also plans take advantage of this great networking opportunity in order to learn more about law school and gain more insight into what that path looks like.

Sophomore. Human Rights Studies and Sociology majors. Social Work minor.

Laney is from Dayton OH. She is double-majoring in Human Rights Studies and Sociology and minoring in Social Work. She expects to graduate in May of 2022. Laney has traveled abroad twice to broaden her studies, once to Guatemala for a month and once to El Salvador for ten days. She looks forward to the Dayton2DC trip to network and make new connections to help in the future with academics and finding internships.

Junior. Criminal Justice Studies major. Cyber Security Management minor.

Jimmy is currently a junior studying Criminal Justice Studies with a minor in Cyber Security Management. He is from Naperville, Illinois, and hopes to graduate in May 2021 with a bachelor's in Criminal Justice Studies. Jimmy hopes to make connections and potentially get an internship from this trip. This will be a great experience for him and his future.

Sophomore. Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies majors. Social Work minor.

Madeline is from Xenia OH and will in 2022 to pursue further education and a career in child advocacy and rights through legislation or fieldwork. She works with Erma's House and Catholic Social Services as a supervised visitation monitor for families and children. Madeline is a Dayton Civic Scholar and a UD Student Ambassador. She hopes to continue her education through research and an internship this summer. Through the Dayton2DC trip, she wants to explore potential internship opportunities. She is excited to learn and get advice from professionals in D.C.

Senior. Political Science major. Minors in Sustainability and English.

Graduating in May and seeking full-time employment, Rachel Carr is a Political Science major, with minors in Sustainability and English. In 2018 and 2019 respectively, she interned with the US EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice and the State of Ohio’s Office of Budget and Management. Informed by her experiences at UD as a researcher at Human Rights Center and a leader with Rivers Institute, she seeks a career that combines policy and community engagement.

Junior. Political Science and Criminal Justice Studies majors.

Tyler is from Grosse Pointe MI. She plans on graduating in May 2021 with a double major in Criminal Justice and Political Science. She currently serves as Vice President of the Student Government Association. Last summer she took part in the Statehouse Civic Scholar program, and worked for State Senator Peggy Lehner. This upcoming summer, she will represent Dayton in the Dayton Flyers program. The Dayton2DC trip will allow her to get a head start on building the connections needed for her summer in DC.

Junior. Political Science and Human Rights majors. Sociology minor.

Emma is a junior Political Science and Humans Rights double-major from Beavercreek, Ohio and is graduating in May 2021. Last summer she interned for the Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center at the Department of Public Safety in the Statehouse Civic Scholars Program. With this trip, she looks forward to networking opportunities and a better idea of what career to pursue after graduation.

Junior. Political Science major. Pre-Law minor.

Kaylyn is from Cedarville OH. She is a junior at UD, expected to graduate in May of 2021. She is an active member in Phi Alpha Delta which is the professional pre-law fraternity at UD. She hopes to make connections and learn more about the working lifestyle Washington D.C. has to offer. Kaylyn would someday like to live in the D.C. area and she feels that this trip will help open doors for a future there. She looks forward to getting advice on future career options and overall tips on life from those in her desired field. 

Junior. Communication major. Political Science and International Studies minors.

Meg is a communication major with political science and international studies minors at UD. She will graduate in May 2021 and pursue a career in DC. She is involved in Model United Nations, the UNICEF Campus Initiative and the Human Rights Week Committee. She interned on the Hill in summer 2019 and hopes to continue her connections through Dayton2DC. In addition, Meg hopes to find an internship for the Summer of 2020.

Sophomore. Economics and Philosophy majors.

Ryan is from Mason OH and will graduate in spring 2022. He is a Dayton Civic Scholar, a resident assistant on campus and serves on the executive board of Epsilon Tau Pi. He hopes to network in DC and plans to find an internship in international relations or developmental economics prior to beginning the DC Flyers Program this summer.

Junior. Communication major, Management and Media Production concentrations. Marketing and Pre-Law minors.

Emma will graduate in May 2021. On campus she serves as Treasurer of Zeta Tau Alpha Woman’s Fraternity and is a Risk Manager of UD Club Tennis, Social Media Manager of Agape Latte club, and is a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters club. She is in the UD BESST Program 2020 and the National Association of Broadcasters Media Sales Academy Class of 2020. She is looking for internship opportunities and alumni connections.




Junior. International Studies major.

Laura is a junior International Studies major with a concentration in Global Migration and Economic Development, and is from Wheaton, Illinois. She plans to graduate in May 2021. She has studied abroad in Italy and interned for a refugee resettlement agency. Ant the University of Dayton, she is on the executive board of Pi Beta Phi, and works in Enrollment Services. Throughout Dayton2DC, Laura will explore internships for a leader in Washington DC that hopes to incite change for our country.


Junior. Political Science major. Pre-Law minor.

Malana is a junior from Silver Spring MD expected to graduate in May in 2021. She is an honors student and recently completed the Core Program at University of Dayton. From the Dayton2DC trip, she hopes to find new opportunities for an internship and any advice about attending law school.



Junior. Political Science major. Business Administration minor.

Victor is from Chicago IL and expects to graduate in 2021. He has done several case studies ranging upon drug usage to the correlation of murders to see what incentives would work well within certain cultures. This summer he will be interning with CDW in Chicago. He is looking for a possible way to get into the healthcare sector in any possible way and would love some help and suggestions.


Graduate Student. Master in Public Administration.

Liam Kohler is a first year MPA student who also completed his BA in political science at UD. He is from Rockville, MD, a Washington D.C. suburb. Liam gained political advocacy experience in the nonprofit and private sectors through several of his previous internship positions. He is now seeking a full time position in the D.C. area following the completion of his graduate degree in May of 2020.

Senior. History and Political Science majors. Certificate in Non-Profit and Community Leadership.

Hannah is from Columbus OH. She will graduate in May 2020. She is currently interning at the Human Rights Center and will intern in campus archives in spring. She is involved in the Civic Scholars Program. Last summer she interned with Plan International USA, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships team. She hopes to gain insights into volunteer programs, graduate school, and non-profit and public service sectors. She wants to build networking and job opportunities.

Junior. Political Science and Philosophy majors. Women's and Gender Studies and Sociology minors.

Sarah Kuhns is from Columbus OH and will graduate in May 2021. She has worked for the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO) as an intern, created a Paid Family Leave policy for the UD as an intern with the Women's Center, and will write an Honors thesis in her final year. She wants to create connections with UD alumni, familiarize herself with D.C., and possibly meet with her internship placement.


Sophomore. Criminal Justice Studies major. Social Work minor.

Macy is from Cleveland OH. She is expected to graduate in 2020 with a criminal justice major and a minor in social work. Macy currently works for the criminal justice department as a student office worker. From the Dayton2Dc trip, Macy hopes to gain insight about new perspective careers.

Senior. Political Science and Communication (Journalism concentration) majors.

Sean is from Pittsburgh and is the online editor-in-chief of Flyer News, UD's student newspaper. He interned in London through the Honors program in 2018 and worked as a legislative research intern at CQ Roll Call this past summer through DC Flyers. Sean is graduating in May and hopes he can find full-time work through Dayton2DC helping the public understand their government.


Junior. Human Rights Studies and Criminal Justice major. Psychology minor.

Jasmine is from Cincinnati OH and will graduate in May 2021. She is currently working on an honors thesis about the importance of rehabilitation for violent offenders. She is a research assistant at a forensic psychology practice and a writing consultant for the Core Program. Jasmine intends to go to law school. On this trip, she hopes to find a summer internship in DC, to network, and learn more about how legal change and reform are made at the national level.


Senior. English and Political Science majors.

Emma is a senior English and political science double major from Naperville IL. She will be graduating in May 2020. Over the past two summers she has interned for former Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. She is currently interning for the National Conference for Community and Justice where she works on a podcast on diversity and inclusion. Emma is excited to make more connections over this trip to help locate a job for after graduation.

Junior. Human Rights major. Pre-Law minor.

Jennifer is from Akron OH. She will graduate in 2020 and plans to attend law school. She has interned at a refugee resettlement agency, learning about U.S. immigration and asylum processes. She is employed at the Human Rights Center, researching immigrant and refugee rights and experiences. She is actively involved in many events and initiatives of the Center. Jennifer has served in an executive role in her sorority, Alpha Phi. With this trip she hopes to gain advice about law school and areas of law. She hopes to network and find a summer internship in D.C.


Junior. Biology major. Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment and Political Science minors.

Claire expects to graduate in May 2021. She is a member of the River Stewards program and works at the Hanley Sustainability Institute on the Education Team, running presentations and facilitating dialogue on sustainability and environmental justice. In DC, she hopes to find possible internships for the summer and network with nonprofits doing work in environmental policy and sustainability.

Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology majors. English and Political Science minors.

Lily is from Cleveland OH and will graduate in 2022 with a degree in Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology. Currently, she is a member of the law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta and plans to intern at the Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center this summer. In D.C. she hopes to gain insight on law school, learn more about careers dealing with prominent social justice issues, as well as better understand future job opportunities.
