MPA Application Process

Applicants interested in beginning the MPA Program should contact the Program Director to discuss the program and submit the online application. The Program Director and Faculty Admissions Committee will review each application holistically, looking for evidence of: the applicant's demonstration of public service motivation and alignment with our program's mission; and the potential for academic success in the program.

Applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Official academic transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities, submitted directly from the institutions to the Office of Graduate Admission. Hand-carried transcripts, official copies marked Issued to Student, and unofficial copies are not accepted.
  • Current resume
  • Three letters of recommendation from professors and/or employers
  • A career trajectory statement addressing why you think you would be a successful candidate for the MPA program, what has led you to pursue a master's degree in public administration, your career aspirations in the public or nonprofit sectors, and how you think this degree will help you reach them
  • A writing sample (an academic paper or work product/report demonstrating your written communication abilities)
  • GRE test scores for the general exam are recommended, especially for students who graduated from their undergraduate studies many years ago or with academic records that do not reflect current potential for academic success. Test scores are not required for an applicant's file to be reviewed for admission.
  • Additional requirements apply for international students
