Music Scholarship Opportunities

There are two music scholarship awards available to students who audition. Music scholarships are available to all students regardless of major.

Music scholarships awarded by the Department of Music can, in some cases, be combined with academic awards received from the University of Dayton's Office of Financial Aid. Therefore, it is important that each applicant complete and submit the requested FAFSA form as part of the financial aid process. Find all required application materials at the Office of Admissions; see link below.

Leadership in Music scholarship nominations for the 2022-23 academic year are now closed, however students can still audition for a Music Talent scholarship (see information below) by following this link.

The Leadership in Music scholarship, worth $10,000 over four years, honors students who explore their vocations and build community through participation in music. Music scholarship recipients perform with ensembles such as the University Chorale, University Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Dayton Jazz Ensemble, World Music Choir, Ebony Heritage Singers, chamber ensembles, and more. This scholarship is open to incoming, full-time first-year students who enroll in a four-year program.

In order to apply for a Leadership in Music scholarship, you are required to take these two steps:

  • Ask someone who knows your musical abilities (a band, orchestra, or choir director, private instructor, music minister, etc.) to submit a nomination form. Nominations should be submitted by Nov. 1 to ensure consideration.
  • Participate in a University of Dayton Audition Day. Click here to reserve your audition date and learn more about auditions.

All students who audition will be considered for a competitive Music Talent Scholarship, worth an additional $1,500-$7,500 each year for four years.

Music Talent Scholarships are offered to very talented voice or instrumental students. The amount of the award depends on a variety of factors, including talent, financial need, and potential to contribute to our degree programs and ensembles. Since the process for Music Talent Scholarships is highly competitive, not every student who auditions will receive an award. Recipients of Music Talent Scholarships will be required to participate in certain ensembles based upon their instrument and/or voice type.

Please note: To be considered for a Music Talent Scholarship, auditions must be completed by mid-February.
