Join students from a variety of disciplines to explore sustainable innovations in Berlin, Germany, a noted leader in green technology, infrastructure and urban planning. As part of the program, we will identify distinctly German attitudes toward the environment and situate these attitudes in a historical, cultural and literary context. We will also bring back lessons for how cities in the U.S. can learn to navigate the social, political and ethical challenges that confront environmental and resource management in the European Union. Our site visits and trips to different parts inside and outside of Berlin will teach us in real-life settings how to relate key concepts and theories that inform ecocriticism and the environmental humanities to other core concerns of human well-being, such as human rights and international peace. This global seminar lets you earn credit to fulfill multiple CAP requirements towards degree completion.
In this program, you can spend part of your summer in Chile, a country with stunning natural beauty, rich history and vibrant culture, while earning credits that count toward fulfilling multiple CAP requirements for your degree. Gain real-world perspectives on human rights issues through visits to sites of social, political and cultural significance. All this while you explore the cosmopolitan city of Santiago at the base of the Andes mountains, picturesque coastal towns, and the breathtaking Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world. We will also meet with Chilean university students and guest speakers for a cultural exchange experience.
