Writing Certificates

The University of Dayton’s Department of English offers two certificates: Writing Certificate and TESOL Certificate. Both certificates are interdisciplinary which means that many courses are offered across departments and colleges.

Obtaining a certificate is a great way to distinguish yourself from other students and build your resume for job opportunities.

    - 9 hours in additional writing courses, which may include approved courses in English, Communication, and Art & Design

Note: 12 hours must be upper-level (300-, 400-level courses); No more than 6 hours in creative writing courses.

  2. Submit a portfolio with polished writing samples to the Writing Certificate Coordinator.

  3. Pass a final writing task that will be evaluated by the Writing Certificate Committee. Upon completion, a statement noting the credential will be posted to your official transcript.
