Be prepared for a successful career in the ever-evolving world of communication.

Our B.A. in communication prepares students for professional careers in a wide range of communication fields: broadcasting, communication management, healthcare administration, journalism and public relations. Our graduates succeed in business, education, government, healthcare, international relations, and social and human services. We also offer graduate studies in business communication and law, and an undergraduate certificate in sport communication.

Prague Study Abroad

During summer 2019, students and faculty from the University of Dayton Department of Communication traveled to Prague, Czech Republic, for a unique study abroad experience. Working with UD alumnus and Hollywood director Jonathan Judge ’93, the students wrote and produced a short film on location in Prague.

University of Dayton communication professor writing textbook guided by student voices

University of Dayton professor Jon Hess is writing an interpersonal communication textbook with a twist. Hess and colleague, Elizabeth Baiocchi-Wagner, a former University of Portland adjunct professor of communication who now works in industry, are testing the textbook with their students during the 2021 spring semester, prior to the book’s publication.

Ohio Arts Council honors two University of Dayton faculty with Individual Excellence Awards and $4K grants

The Ohio Arts Council honored two University of Dayton College of Arts and Sciences faculty Individual Excellence Awards for their respective creative work in filmmaking and graphic design. Jesseca Ynez Simmons, assistant professor of communication, and Misty Thomas-Trout ’11, assistant professor of art and design, received the awards and $4,000 grants to develop their skills and advance their careers.
