Flyer Pep Band

The Flyer Pep Band is a spirited, energetic group that performs during Dayton Flyers events. By performing popular music, wearing outrageous hats, and bringing endless energy and enthusiasm, the band creates an atmosphere like no other. We are:

The Flyer Pep Band performs the men's and women's basketball games, as well as women's volleyball games. The band also participates in service activities throughout the greater Dayton community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the pep band perform?

The Flyer Pep Band performs at all men's and women's home basketball games and accompanies the teams to tournaments and games at neutral sites.

The band is split into two groups: the red and blue bands, each responsible for playing at about half the games during the season. 

Is pep band a class?

Yes. UD students must register for both the half-credit fall class and the full-credit spring class.

If registering for pep band would result in exceeding 18 credit hours, please contact Director Willie Morris. The course can manually be added and not incur an additional charge.

Who can join pep band? How do I join?

Flyer Pep Band membership is open to current students, and it's never too late to join! We have members ranging from first-year students to fifth-year seniors. Current students can express their interest by completing the interest form in Porches.

High school students and alumni, along with current students, are invited to participate in the Holiday Pep Band.

What is the Holiday Flyer Pep Band?

The Holiday Flyer Pep Band is a community of musicians who come together to create the Flyer Pep Band during the holiday season while the UD students are away. The holiday band includes UD students, Flyer alumni, students from other colleges, and high school students.

Flyer Pep Band Director

Dr. Willie L. Morris III has been the head director of the Flyer Pep Band since 1996. He is also a professor of saxophone and director of the Dayton Jazz Ensemble.

Kenneth Will, assistant director of the Flyer Pep Band, has been at UD since 2016. He is also the director of the Pride of Dayton Marching Band and leads the Concert Band.
