Commitment. Excellence. Creativity.

At the University of Dayton, we provide strong training in art and design professional degree areas, offering you opportunities to earn a bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, minor or certificate in a variety of areas.

Our programs emphasize the production of intensive studio-based arts research, the development of critical evaluative skills, and the practice of excellent oral and written communication abilities.

The University of Dayton is proud to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Student Reviews

There is no portfolio application or entrance requirement for art and design programs. However, all majors in the department go through a review upon completion of the foundation courses. This review, known as the Exchange, involves an evaluation by two to three faculty members from the department.

Every Student Is Unique. So Are We.

Show Off Your Work

The University of Dayton has many spaces for you to show off your work, including the Roger Glass Center for the Arts with its theaters and gallery.

Student art is also featured in the Orpheus Art & Literary Magazine, one of the student-produced publications at UD.

Individualized Education

Tailor your degree with a minor or double major. In fact, a double major is recommended with the B.A. Students can double major or minor with the B.F.A but will need to work closely with an advisor in scheduling classes.

Dedicated Faculty

Our faculty members are committed to offering individualized instruction, academic advising and professional mentoring. Devoted solely to undergraduate learning, we offer small faculty-to-student ratios that ensure high-quality contact with instructors. Our instructors are leaders in their professional fields, all committed to excellence in research and in teaching.

Experiential Learning

Our faculty understand the value of experiential learning. As such, they strive to give students many opportunities to learn from doing, through a variety of departmental and interdisciplinary programs and projects.

Students develop research in state-of-the art studios that include expansive technologies for graphic design, printmaking, ceramics, wood and metal installation work, painting, illustration and digital and darkroom photography.

Scholarships

Scholarships offered by the Department of Art and Design are awarded to first-year, full-time students who enroll in a four-year program in any of the major program areas within the department.
