Flyer Promise Summer Experience

The Flyer Promise Summer Experience prepares Flyer Promise Scholars for life on campus, provides leadership and community engagement opportunities and introduces key University leaders who will provide support during the college experience.

Flyer Promise Scholars are required to participate in the program, which is held on campus August 11-16.

The summer experience includes: 

  • A welcome reception after move-in for Flyer Promise Scholars and their families. 
  • Opportunities to interact with faculty and staff during class sessions focused on academic success strategies like time management and study skills and workshops that explore each scholar’s academic discipline and major. Scholars will complete a group project to research how their academic interests connect to a current social issues and to develop collaborative solutions that contribute the common good.  
  • Receptions with university leadership and an introduction to student resources such as academic advising, the Counseling Center, the Office of Learning Resources, Career Services, the Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center, Flyer Student Services, Campus Ministry and the Institute of Applied Creativity for Transformation. 
  • Community development through off-campus excursions, Campus Ministry retreat and daily reflection sessions with a peer mentor. 

The Flyer Promise Summer Experience includes participation in the Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center Pre-Orientation, August 15-16, and is followed by New Student Orientation, August 18-21. Students must register for New Student Orientation through Porches by August 4.
