Undergraduate International Admission

Visa and Financial Documentation

The University of Dayton and the United States Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement require that students who plan to enter the U.S. meet certain requirements.  A student must be admitted and provide proof of the ability to cover educational costs, living and other miscellaneous expenses for the first year.  UD requires you to submit financial documents to our office to verify this financial capability.  Once we received these documents, we will prepare an immigration document (I-20).  You will then use this document to obtain a student (F-1) visa from your consulate.

Financial Documents should include

Bank Statement:

  • Issued from a financial institution within the last six months listing the owner of the account, account number and balance.
  • Includes liquid funds only.
  • Property documents, salary statements, retirement, investment and business accounts are not accepted.
  • The statement should list a minimum of $65,295 USD before any merit scholarships are offered. This is the current total educational expenses for one year.

Letter of Financial Support:

  • A signed statement from each individual listed as the account holder(s) on the bank statement.
  • Lists the relationship to the student (mother, father, uncle, etc.)
  • Indicates the amount of support for one year provided to the student.
  • This letter of support is not required if the student is supporting themselves.

The above documents must be issued in English or be accompanied by a certified English translation.

Alternate acceptable documentation

  • Government or Embassy sponsorship letter if you are sponsored by your government. We will accept a letter stating ‘For Admission Purposes Only’.
  • Affidavit of Support – UD’s affidavit is a combination of the bank statement and the letter of financial support indicated above. Please note that the financial institution must sign and stamp their section.
