Student Loan Repayment
Time to start paying back your student loans? Make an informed decision with these tips below.
Know Your Loan Servicer
Your loan servicer will provide answers to any questions about your federal student loans, provide tips and resources, help you choose the appropriate repayment plan, and explain your options when you are having trouble making payments.
By creating an online account with your loan servicer, you can check your balance, make payments, and much more. You can find your loan servicer contact information and student loan amounts at studentaid.gov.
Know your status.
Student loan borrowers go through three stages: In School, In Grace, In Repayment.
- In School: When you're enrolled in school at least half-time (for University of Dayton, this is 6 credit hours for undergraduate students and 3 credit hours for graduate students)
- In Grace: The six-months after you graduate, withdraw, or drop below half-time status
- In Repayment: When you're required to make payments on your student loans
Know your options.
The federal government has different repayment plans which can be found at studentaid.gov. Your loan servicer will also be a great resource when selecting a plan.
