Alumni Leaders

Our Alumni Leaders

Meet alumni who have stepped up to light the way for UD as we move forward with an ambitious plan to promote excellence, access and experience across the University.

Richard Omlor ’79

Rick spent most of his management and engineering career with Yellow Springs Instruments, and he retired as chairperson and CEO after the sale of YSI to ITT (now Xylem, Inc.) in 2011. Xylem, Inc. is a leading developer and manufacturer of sensors, instruments, software and data collection platforms for environmental water monitoring with a business model promoting an ecologically sustainable habitat.

Rick has been a member of the University’s Board of Trustees since 2011, and he is currently chair of the Finance/Facilities Committee. Rick is also serving as chair of the newly formed OnMain Board (a joint venture between UD and Premier Health to develop the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds property.) He and his wife, Liz, have directed their support at UD to the Endowment for Human Rights, the Arena Transformation Project and the University of Dayton Fund.

William Stankey ’80

Criminal Justice

Bill is the president and founder of Westport Entertainment Associates and was recently inducted into the Personal Managers Hall of Fame. Bill and his wife, Mary, have re-engaged substantially with UD in the last couple of years. The couple established the Pay It Forward Scholarship in 2017 to provide four scholarships for underrepresented students, with preference given to first-generation students.

Bill routinely returns to campus and engages directly with students in and out of the classroom. Last year, he was the keynote speaker at the SBA’s entrepreneurship dinner where the Flyer Pitch winners are announced.

Deborah Flanagan Tobias ’73

Secondary Education

Deb spent 20 years in technology sales and sales management, responsible for both domestic and European sales campaigns with Juniper Networks. Deb previously served on the University of Dayton Board of Trustees (2010-2014) and was recently invited to serve an additional term on the board starting July 1, 2019.

She was part of the UD Campaign Planning Group that guided the University through a campaign feasibility study and the vote to begin the leadership phase of our campaign. Deb and husband, Randy, have designated their philanthropy at UD to need-based scholarship aid and broadening the opportunities for students to study abroad.
