TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SELF & COMMUNITY

C2C Primary Goal: To increase students’ understanding of community in the Catholic and Marianist traditions.

We Learn as a Community, Lead as a Community, and Serve as a Community. 

Learning Outcome 1: Students will demonstrate that they have read the C2C document (pdf) by being able to name the three principles of community living.  Examples of experiences that foster this outcome include New Student Orientation, Housing and Residence Life Floor Meetings, and events and activities related to the C2C marketing campaign.

Learning Outcome 2: Students will use the language of the C2C to discuss their experiences of living in community.  This outcome has been divided into multiple levels to foster developmentally sequenced experiences for students.  The highest level for each subdivision of this outcome is below.

  1. Student identifies a commitment to develop or practice one or more behaviors associated with the C2C principles, examples of how they have, and a description of challenges involved in doing so and/or student identifies specific experiences of community that have challenged and affected their personal development.
  2. Student discusses an adopted decision making framework or set of values that will preserve and improve the students’ dignity and well-being.
  3. Student discusses an adopted decision making framework or set of values that will preserve and improve others’ dignity and well-being.
  4. Student gives an example of a commitment they have made and consistently pursue which involves self-sacrifice in pursuit of group interests and student explains how this commitment is connected to their vocational or a vocational calling.
  5. Student articulates and describes specific examples of how the challenges and joys of being in a community have affected and been affected by their relationship with or understanding of God and their journey of faith.

Examples of learning experiences that foster these outcomes include: the conduct process, special interest housing process, and Campus Ministry’s leadership and retreat experiences. Discussions have taken place regarding implementing learning experiences fostering these outcomes in several other contexts.

Learning Outcome 3: Students will apply the principles of the C2C to their decision making.

Examples of learning experiences that foster these outcomes include Behavioral Hearings and Perspective meetings organized by Community Standards and Civility and conducted mainly by Housing and Residence Life professionals.

Learning Outcome 4: Students will identify strategies to manage conflict that are consistent with the themes captured in the C2C document. Examples of learning experiences that foster this outcome include: the training of student employees and the Housing and Residence Life's Roommate Agreement Process.
