Brett Burney '00 was featured in the article "Transformative Tech Tips" in the September 2013 issue of the ABA Student Lawyer.  He is founder and principal of Burney Consultants LLC, which specializes in electronic discovery, litigation support, and legal technology.  Brett's two tech tips were to leverage the iPad as a "digital file folder," and to be more productive through better use of calendar, e-mail, and task lists.

Tom Dover '80 UDSLBest Lawyers has named Gallagher Sharp’s Thomas E. Dover ' 80 as the “Cleveland Best Lawyers’ Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants Lawyer of the Year” for 2014. Mr. Dover, Gallagher Sharp’s Managing Partner, joined the firm upon his graduation from the University of Dayton School of Law and became a partner in 1987.  He has served as the chair of the firm's Transportation Practice Group and as a member of the Executive Committee.  He has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 2003, is a Martindale-Hubbell AV® Peer Review Rated attorney, and an Ohio SuperLawyer since 2004.  He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.

Jonathan Hiltzh UDSL '06The Cincinnati law firm of Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL is pleased to announce that it has elected new partner, Jonathan M. Hiltz '06Mr. Hiltz practices in the firm’s Business Representation and Transactions Group. His practice is concentrated in the corporate and finance areas, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters. Hiltz has represented both publicly held and private companies in a wide range of business transactions, including acquisitions and divestitures of existing businesses; the formation of international and domestic joint ventures; and cross-border shipping, distribution and licensing arrangements; as well as representing lenders and borrowers in commercial lending, equipment leasing and finance transactions. He also has represented numerous private company clients in capital formation transactions, including structuring and documenting venture capital and private equity investments and debt financings. Hiltz regularly counsels clients in connection with pre-merger filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act and on other federal antitrust compliance matters.  Hiltz earned his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2006, where he was Editor-in-Chief of Law Review.  

Angela Hughes '04 was named one of the Top Ten 30 Something by the Association of Corporate Counsel in 2012.  Angela and her husband Jeff have been married since 1997 and have three children, Bailee (14), Steven (8) and Jack (11 months). Hughes said, "Bailee basically attended law school with me because she turned 2 years old the day I started. She was with me in the car listening to law CDs and with me at home doing legal flash cards. Now, as a high schooler, she argues like a girl born to litigate!"

Jeff Ireland UDSL '80Faruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L. is pleased to announce that partner Jeff Ireland '80 has been nominated for Fellowship in the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA) by the organization’s Advisory Board. The Board selected Ireland as a candidate for Fellowship due to his experience and success as a business litigator. The LCA is a trial lawyer honor society whose membership is limited to less than one half of one percent of American lawyers.  The LCA was established as a trial and appellate lawyer honor society reflecting the American bar in the 21st century, and represents the best in law among its membership. Ireland, a founding partner of Faruki Ireland & Cox, has been trying business cases for more than 30 years. Ireland’s practice includes advertising and trademarks, products liability and employment. He has defended many class actions and has represented clients in federal and state courts throughout the United States. Ireland has also been recognized annually as an Ohio Super Lawyer, as one of the Best of the Bar based on a survey conducted by the Dayton Business Journal, and is listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. He was also selected as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, an organization consisting of trial attorneys. He is a Master of the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court. Additionally, Ireland speaks frequently at seminars on trial practice, antitrust and competitive issues. Ireland earned his bachelor's degree from Denison University. In 2009, he received the distinguished alumnus award from the University of Dayton School of Law. Ireland was elected and served for 10 years as the Mayor of Oakwood, a suburb of Dayton. He has been involved in numerous charitable and not-for-profit activities as a volunteer, member of the Board or Board Chair. Mr. Ireland will also be joining the University of Dayton School of Law's advisory council in the Spring of 2014. 

The Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation is launching its 2013-2014 Leadership Institute, a program designed in 2011 to cultivate, promote, and enhance the leadership skills of woman attorneys. The Leadership Institute invites exceptional women attorneys from across Ohio to attend this premier program. Sessions include practical, interactive training by successful lawyers and business professionals in areas such as, business development strategies, effective communication techniques, social media, and public speaking. "This outstanding program was created by top women lawyers in Ohio who understand what it takes to be a leader," says Prof. Denise Platfoot Lacey, Immediate Past President of the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation, Leadership Institute Chair and Lecturer of Law at the University of Dayton School of Law. This year's class includes UDSL alumni Kimberly Jones '11 of US District Court-Magistrate Judge Bowman, Micheline Kidwell '10 of WilmerHale and Shelby McMillan '97 of Reminger Co., LPA.

Eric Ludwig '00Eric Ludwig '00 is a newly elected Partner in the Atlanta office of Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP.  Eric concentrates his practice in the areas of product liability, premises liability, business, toxic tort, and environmental litigation.  He serves as HPTY's primary litigator in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and as a member of several teams that operate as national coordinating counsel. 

Bruce F. Martino '80 is an Associate Legal Counsel for GOJO Industries, Inc., the makers of PURELL® hand sanitizer and other skin care products. Along with his wife, Ann, he now resides in Springboro, Ohio. Their daughters Liz, a grad student, and Melissa, a freshman, are attending The Ohio State University. In his spare time, Bruce is training for this year’s New York City Marathon. 

Scott McBride '98 of Chicago firm McAndrews, Held & Malloy was featured on The Daily Show on the September 12, 2013 episode to discuss biotech patents.

Jeff Rezabek '97 was awarded the individual Juvenile Justice Award from the Image of Hope 2013 Youth Advocacy Awards. The winners are scored for outstanding service in youth advocacy for the Greater Dayton Area. 

Joe Mulligan '11 UDSLFaruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L. is pleased to welcome Joe Mulligan '11 as its newest attorney. Prior to working with FI&C, Mulligan spent two years in private practice in Middletown and served as a law clerk extern for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. Mr. Mulligan is experienced in employment law matters, business litigation, wills and probate administration, business transactions and domestic relations disputes. Before attending law school, Joe enjoyed a successful career as an advertising sales manager for television and cable operations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Dayton Law School where he served as a staff writer and executive editor for University of Dayton Law Review. In 2011, Joe was elected to a four-year term for an at-large seat on Middletown’s City Council. He is also involved in several other community organizations including Bishop Fenwick High School Alumni Association, Brown’s Run Country Club, Downtown Middletown, Inc., Middletown City School District Facilities Committee, Middletown Community Foundation Marketing Committee, Middletown Symphony Orchestra, and Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (S.E.L.F.), a community action agency in Butler County. He is a 2012 graduate of the Leadership Class of the Chamber of Commerce serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton.
