ADOLESCENT TO YOUNG ADULT EDUCATION
In my four years at UD, I received a tremendous education, experienced fulfilling activities and met many great people who have had a profound impact on my life.
I’m so grateful to have received the University of Dayton 1965 Alumni Scholarship. Because I received this support, I was able to spend a summer teaching as a volunteer at the Christian David School outside of Cape Town, South Africa. The area is very poor, and most schools lack the funding for adequate supplies and quality teachers. With the help of a great group of volunteers from all around the world, the Christian David School could offer the local children a better education and hope for the future: hope that they can overcome the poverty, violence, and disharmony that complicate their lives. I know I was able to help them in a small way, but the truth is, I think I learned more from them than they learned from me.
Thank you, alumni and friends of UD; your generosity made a difference to me. Now, as I prepare to join the workforce as a professional educator, I’m ready to go and make a difference, too.
