Highlights from Camp
Are you ready to experience engineering?
The Summer Honors Engineering Camp starts with a welcome meeting and gives you and your parents/guardians the opportunity to meet with counselors, faculty and staff. You'll hear from a keynote speaker who will share personal experiences in engineering and opportunities available in the field.
Experiments in engineering
See engineering in action when you work in teams to conduct hands-on experiments in engineering. Guided by University of Dayton faculty, you'll learn what distinguishes chemical, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and engineering technology. The five engineering topics will be offered daily, and groups of 20 students will rotate through the topics throughout the week.
Lego robotics group project
Explore engineering fundamentals from a first-year engineering class through an exciting robotics project. Small groups of students will build robots and use computer programming to make the robots solve specific problems. Your team will have the opportunity to compete with others as well as make adjustments to your designs as they are developed.
During a three-hour period, you'll participate in an innovation module. You will be challenged to let your creativity reign — apply your brainpower to engineer and solve a problem.
Dinner with a practicing engineer
Have questions about engineering? You'll enjoy a sit-down dinner with a practicing engineer from a field of your choice. Find out how you'll put your degree to use, how engineering careers change over time, what a typical day at work is like, how to find job satisfaction and more. Prior to the dinner, your counselor will hold an informational session with your group, eliciting possible discussion points for the guest engineer.
The program will close with a graduation luncheon where you'll share your activities with your parents — and relive them yourself — as you watch a slide presentation of the week's events and awards for the week are given out.
There are plenty of fun social activities during the week, too. Interact with your peers, counselors, faculty and staff during a cookout, pizza party and ice cream social. Play a pick-up basketball game, conquer the climbing wall or use the pool in the RecPlex — the University of Dayton's new recreation and fitness complex. Enjoy billiards, bowling and video games in the Hangar — the student union game room.
