Do you want to go to law school? We can help you prepare.

The Prelaw Program endeavors to help all students who think they might want to go to law school some time in the future. The Prelaw Program is open to all students -- all majors. We are, indeed, the program for all majors. The Prelaw Program is also an ideal option for students entering UD's College of Arts and Sciences who are undecided about their major. If you don't know what to major in but think you might be interested in a law-related career, you can enter UD as "prelaw." Our First Year Experience Seminar will help you select a major as well as introduce you to UD and the Prelaw Program.
Law Books

Our program works with any major.

The Prelaw Program provides students with the guidance and academic assistance necessary to prepare them for success in the study of law. Law schools discourage students from having a "prelaw" major so we do not offer one at the University of Dayton. Upon entering the University, students simply declare their interest in prelaw and thereby become members of the Prelaw Program. They may select a specific major either as incoming first-year students or, with the aid of the Prelaw Program director, later in their college careers.  Once students declare a major, they get academic guidance from a professor in their declared major who is also trained in prelaw advising.

We are here for you.

We draw on the expertise of an interdisciplinary group of faculty to serve as academic advisors for our students. Learn more about us from the links at right.

Get involved through research.

Our interdisciplinary faculty are involved in both teaching and research in their given disciplines. They can guide students with their own research as well, which can be presented at various student conferences and symposia. The University of Dayton's own Bro. Joseph W. Stander Symposium is just one of the venues in which our students annually present their work.

How can we help you?
