Professional and Technical Writing at UD
In our information economy, writing is the primary form of intellectual labor. The Department of English designs upper-level professional and technical writing courses to meet the demands of the contemporary workforce, and serves dual constituencies; students who want to a writing career (professional writers), and students whose career choices require advanced writing skills (professionals-who-write).
For students in majors as diverse as business management, criminal justice, English, political science, economics, engineering, marketing, and health sciences, the professional and technical writing courses offered in the Department of English offer the opportunity to study and practice writing across a wide range of real-world contexts and genres. Students can choose specific courses appropriate to their major, or they may take on a more intensive course of study through the Writing Certificate Program or Writing Internship experiences.
Regardless of the choice, students learn the rhetorical and linguistic skills necessary to produce effective writing in the workplace.
